It was a beautiful, sunny morning in Southern California when I geared up for an exclusive driving experience hosted by Volvo for influencers and automotive enthusiasts from around the globe. Leading up to our drive, we stayed at the stunning Pelican Hill resort on the Newport Coast. The resort itself was nothing short of spectacular, and Volvo had settled in for several weeks to refine our experience and create lasting memories for us. It was then that the realization dawned on me- I wasn’t here just to drive a Volvo, but to discover the essence of what driving one feels like.
The excitement was building the morning of our drive, as we were given a comprehensive guide on all the vehicle’s features and where our journey would take us. As an audiophile, it was hard to hide my eagerness to step into this machine after hearing about the sophistication of its sound system. The EX90 is equipped with a Bowers & Wilkins High-Fidelity Audio system that lets you experiment with a range of different audio modes, my personal favorite being “Concert Hall.” Moreover, if the exceptional Bowers & Wilkins setup wasn’t enough to satisfy your musical cravings, it also includes Dolby Atmos. Little did I know, however, this was just the tip of the iceberg.
Finally, it was time for action, and as I approached Volvo’s newest centerpiece, I knew I was in for an exhilarating experience. Upon entering the vehicle, you are thrust into an immersive world that doesn’t exist yet- or at least one that feels unfamiliar- as if embarking on a galactic journey in what is the highway equivalent of a spaceship. While pushing the limits of my imagination, the cabin felt as if it had been tailored specifically for me. The precision of every detail, the intuitive placement of the controls, the luxurious materials- it was an environment that instilled a profound sense of confidence in me, and a willingness to let this vehicle do what it was designed to do.
We drove the EX90 through the winding hills of Southern California, where the breathtaking views harmonized perfectly with the vehicle. Around the bends I went, feeling the power of the EX90 grip the asphalt with each turn. It was clear that this Volvo was a vehicle of many capabilities- it had the poise and presence of a luxury sports car, with the capability and safety of a family SUV.
It eliminates the mundanity often associated with driving- there is no mere “point A to point B” with the EX90, but rather an eagerness to get behind the wheel and a sense of privilege when you press the pedal to the floor. For me, driving this feat of modern engineering through the awe-inspiring landscape of Orange County redefined what an electric vehicle is supposed to feel like.
As the sun set and we rolled back into Pelican Hill, I couldn’t help but think: this is what it means to drive a Volvo. It’s a feeling like no other- one that lingers long after the engine has been turned off.
