This Week in Sports Social Media
was refreshing considering last week was a bit heavy so instead of seeing one Women’s pro sports league fall
, we’re gonna highlight one that’s thriving. Across the pond, UK soccer is securing its place in the upper echelons of the sport as two of the Premiere Leagues most historic squads get set to square off in the Champions League final. Back in TO, the Raptors
face Game 7 at home on Sunday and the whole city is rallying behind Kawhi. While one quest for a title in Canada persists, the Stanley Cup knows its not coming home anytime soon so it took in some BP in San Fran. Not bad for a busy week but better still was our first release of our new series, the OFFSZN where we’ll partner with The Drop to bring you the best in kicks all summer long. Enjoy…
WWCFL Kicks Off
@thesydneybee: Guess who played a great football game this weekend! 😁🏈❤ Thank you #northernanarchy for letting me play with you and thanks to #calgaryrage for a great game 🤗 I played safety for the first time instead of corner, hopefully I wasn’t too bad haha 😅 Also we played at the @calstampeders CFL stadium which was super cool! 😁
Sure last week was a depressing one for women’s hockey but over in the prairies, Women’s Pro Football is thriving in the WWCFL (Western Women’s Canadian Football League). Since 2011 the league has fielded eight teams that play an exciting brand of football. Just take a look at the first week scores that saw the Calgary Rage pitch a 75-0 shutout.
Champions League Final all set
What a special night. Hit ❤️ if that’s the best Anfield game you’ve ever experienced! 🔴🔴🔴 #LFC #LiverpoolFC #UCL #ChampionsLeague #Anfield
It was a wild week in European football with Champions League Semi-finals being played across the continent and to say it was a wild handful of matches would be an understatement. While no one would have predicted a Tottenham/Liverpool final, there probably wasn’t anyone happier than Canadian Hoop Icon/Soccer Fanboy Steve Nash who lost his shiz while celebrating the Spurs triumphant win over Ajax. All we could do though was keep watching the replays of that series winner from the corner by Liverpool that cemented their epic comeback.
TO all in on Kawhi for game 7
Meanwhile here in Toronto, we’re also starving for a title and if the Raps are going to have a chance, they’ll have to win this Sunday at home vs the 76ers in game 7 of the Conference Semi-Finals. The city is of course all in on the Kawhi sweepstakes and every good recruitment needs a good mural so this week one had to show up on Queen Street in the shadow of the CN Tower. It’s awesome but the Raps should’ve put Philly away on the road in Game 6 so if they don’t get to the conference finals where the Bucks are now waiting, don’t be too shocked to see paint cover that thing up come July.
Lord Stanley takes BP in SF
One trophy we know has zero chance of ending up in Canada anytime before 2020 is the Stanley Cup, which we hope gets hoisted anywhere but Boston at this point (Go Sharks!). So with the Finals just a few weeks away, could you blame Lord Stanley for chasing the sun and getting down to AT&T Park in San Francisco where it took in a little batting practice and mugged for the cameras.
OFFSZN is on for GLORY
Pardon us for the shameless plug here but you can’t blame us for being a little excited this week about the first release of OFFSZN, a weekly video series brought to you by GLORY and The Drop that will bring you the hottest trends in sneakers and style this summer. With @joeisthenewblack leading the charge, expect our sneaker content, and collection, to be next level in no time.
