This Week in Sports Social Media……we’re still coming down from the week that saw the first major sports title land in Canada in some time and what a way to celebrate. Still, we need recognize that while the marathon that was the NBA playoffs is now behind us, there’s still some great things happening in Canadian sports that you need to tune into.
TO shows its Raps LOVE parade style
Of course what dominated the week was the biggest, craziest championship sports parade the city, and possibly the world has ever seen. With anywhere from 2.5-3 million people reportedly packing the parade route in downtown Toronto, the 5 1/2 hour long parade gave the raps plenty of time to soak in the crowd and even make sure Kawhi got his housewarming gift from Plant Guy! Just check Uncle Dennis celebrate this other victory!?!
Brooke keeps winning
Meanwhile over in Michigan, Brooke Henderson just keeps on winning taking the Meijer LPGA Classic in Belmont over the weekend. With this win, Brooke has now become the winning-est Canadian professional golfer of all time taking her 9th trophy cementing her status, at age 21, as one of the game’s GOAT’s.
Rj goes 3rd
Moving down to Brooklyn on Thursday night, the NBA hosted its annual Draft festivities that saw a record four Canadians taken in the first round and 6 total on the night. RJ Barrett headlined the Canuck hoops class after being selected by the Knicks with the third overall pick after which he delighted the media with some moments of tearful joy as well as some quotables en Francais that even impressed himself.
Canadian Women Playing Sweden in Paris
Crossing the pond, the Canadian Women have moved on to the elimination round of the Women’s World Cup in Paris and will play Sweden in the round of 16 this weekend but the week wasn’t all sunshine and lollipops as they suffered a defeat to the strong Dutch team. Still they managed to advance and here’s betting they channel their inner Raptors, adjust and come back strong to keep on advancing.
Board man goes to baseball game and Niagara Falls
Okay so we can’t abandon those Raps completely even though it’s now the offseason but while Kawhi Leonard may only have a week left in his tenure as a Raptor, and while we hope this really doesn’t happen, we’re glad he seems to be using his time now that he’s got a couple more trophies to show off to take in some of Canada’s sights and sounds. Showing up this week in Niagara Falls, a Jays game and Yorkdale mall (we think those Home Depot boxes are just to ship some of his championship gear to the Hall of Fame), social media couldn’t get enough the Klaw and Kawhi not?!?
