TWISSM: July 31, 2019 Stroman Says Bye to Toronto

This Week in Sports Social Media……you can tell a long weekend is upon us because yeah, we’re slow this week (again). We blame the heat but in truth, we’re just getting really excited about the first-ever GLORY event next week with Canada Basketball. Lots still happened in the sports world we need to tell you about though. From MLB to the WNBA to Africa, here’s whats been happening in the world of Sports Social Media

Stro Show Coming to America
No Marcus Stroman will not be starring in the rumoured sequel to Eddie Murphy’s masterpiece but he will be taking his talents to Queens, New York after the Jays shipped him to the Mets this week. Jays fans have no clue what they really got for him but hasn’t this been true of most of the player personnel moves in the Shapiro-Atkins era? All we can say is the guy exited with major class from fans POV and thank god he’s not going the Yankees.–C/?igshid=uc0nm754cdvz

Bo knows the Blue Jays
While one Jay got shipped out of town this week, fans were somewhat placated with the call up it resulted in with shortstop Bo Bichette getting the automatic promotion following Stroman’s trade to New York. The good news is the kid has All-Star lineage in father Dante, has been tearing up the minors this year and joins Calvan Biggio and Vlad Guerrero Jr. to form one of the most enviable young infields in MLB. All we want to know is if the kids show up and hit but no one is there to pitch, do they still make a win??? Good luck Bo!

Masai without borders
As certain as things are like death, taxes and trade deadlines, one thing Canadian sports fans can count on is that if it’s summer time, Raps President Masai Ujiri will be found somewhere in Africa giving back. Last week he was seen with Raps alumnus Chris Bosh putting in work via Basketball Without Borders in Senegal and and next week he’ll be taking his Giants of Africa basketball camps across the continent to Morocco, Mali, Cameroon, Somalia, Tanzania and South Sudan. Truly amazing and best of all, we’re hoping the Larry OB makes an appearance with him along the way.

Kia does the WNBA All Stars
While the NBA athletes and execs spend their summer giving back, the WNBA is in full swing and its midseason classic featured none other than Canada’s Kia Nurse who started her first All-Star game in only her second season. Played in Las Vegas, Kia Showed up for team Delle Donne scoring 15 points is 17 minutes but her team fell short of the W. No worries and we know Kia is just getting started.

Lin gets emotional about free agency
While one great career is getting started, another pretty good one looks like it may be winding down. Or at least an NBA career as Jeremy Lin was trending on social media this week for his honesty in showing his feelings about his current free agent status. Sure the player formerly known as Linsanity just won a Championship with the Raps but given his minimal impact on the floor, it’s no big surprise that he’s not super coveted in free agency. I guess we’ll give the guy some credit for letting his emotions out but not sure it’ll help his prospects of getting a contract in a league that currently has the 7th all-time leading scorer still looking for a deal. Just sayin…..
