At the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), GLORY Media joined Rolex in celebrating the brand’s remarkable Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative. Since its inception in 2002, this program has played a crucial role in bridging generations of artists through one-on-one mentorship, fostering a rich exchange of knowledge and creative expertise across diverse disciplines and cultures.

This year’s TIFF event was a notable highlight, featuring the premiere of Jia Zhang-Ke’s highly anticipated film, Caught by the Tides. Filmed over the course of twenty-plus years, the film has garnered significant acclaim and is a testament to Zhang-Ke’s artistic evolution. A renowned filmmaker who has long been celebrated for his profound storytelling and cinematic vision, Zhang-Ke was paired with fellow director Rafael Manuel through the Rolex initiative. Both were joined by TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey for an engaging panel on stage to discuss their experience working together.

This collaboration has not only enriched Zhang-Ke’s creative practice but has also provided Manuel with invaluable insights from an esteemed mentor as they worked on Manuel’s upcoming film, Filipiñana. The Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative continues to be a beacon of artistic excellence, ensuring that the world’s creative traditions are both honoured and evolved.

The event offered a profound glimpse into how mentorship can shape the future of art, celebrating the powerful synergy between seasoned and emerging talents. The collaboration was a compelling reminder of Rolex’s commitment to cultivating and sustaining the global artistic community.
