Earlier this year, DeAndre Hopkins entered new territory—literally—when the NFL All-Pro wide receiver was traded from the Houston Texans to the Arizona Cardinals.

So far, that trade has fared well for Hopkins. In his first game in a Cardinals jersey, he became the first player in league to have at least 14 catches and 100 receiving yards in a team debut.

Now, Hopkins continues to make moves with a recently announced investment into Therabody, formerly known as Theragun. His support for the percussive massage therapy device lines up well with his interests as a high-performing athlete. In addition to investing, Hopkins is the company’s newest Athlete Brand Ambassador.

When he’s not on the field or using his Therabody to recover from a workout, Hopkins has been setting an agenda as a businessman. In addition to the Therabody investment, as he has previously invested in Beyond Meat and is actively involved with his mother’s charitable organization, S.M.O.O.O.T.H, a non-profit dedicated to helping survivors of domestic violence.

As NFL fans rejoice that their favourite Sunday activity is back, GLORY sat down with DeAndre Hopkins to talk about the things he thinks about every other day of the week.

How did your partnership with Therabody come about?

I have been a fan of Therabody and its Theragun products for years now. I’ve been lucky enough to have access to cutting-edge recovery products throughout my collegiate and professional career, and have been able to experience Theragun’s game-changing benefits. I can tell you Theragun is the best percussive therapy device on the market—and that’s why I was drawn to the company.

I began talking to the Therabody team this year, and really envisioned a larger opportunity with the company beyond a standard athlete endorsement deal. So, in addition to becoming a Therabody Athlete, I also made a personal investment in the company. I really believe in their products, and am excited to share how they can change people’s lives.

As a pro-athlete, especially in a contact sport like the NFL, recovery is just as important as working out on game day itself. How has Therabody helped?

It’s become an essential part of my daily routine. A lot of people know Theragun devices for how it helps with recovery, but it is also great for activation pre-workout or pre-game and it helps me unwind after a long day. I always have a Theragun PRO or Theragun mini with me wherever I go.

How are you adjusting to life in Arizona and how do you like living there?

I love it. Since I’m new to the team, I’ve really tried to get into the facility early everyday and on off-days, so I haven’t done much exploring but I’m looking forward to doing more. I am really excited to get to know Phoenix better and the Cardinals fans.

We know you are a big NBA fan—who are you rooting for in the playoffs?

I’ve enjoyed watching the playoffs so far and rooting for all the teams that are competing for the championship.

You’ve spoken a lot about your family, specifically your mom. What is the greatest lesson your mom has taught you?

Her experiences, and my entire family’s, have shaped my life and taught me a million lessons. But I think the biggest takeaway from what we’ve been through as a family, is you have to learn to face whatever comes your way and [face] those obstacles with strength and perseverance.
