This Week in Sports Social Media, we see how much big time hoops is suddenly happening in Hamilton, relate to Antonio Brown, wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, not wanting to make Buffalo his winter home, check in on what’s happening in warmer climes with the Jays down in Dunedin, Florida, and acknowledge a major milestone from Akron’s finest.
Buzzer Beater for the Trophy
This past week, Hamilton played host to the OFSAA Basketball AAA Championships (Ontario High School’s equivalent of the NBA Championship), and was it ever a doozy. With the game tied up and seconds to go, defending champion Pine Ridge from Durham turned to its star player Shakael Pryce who delivered a bucket along with the trophy. Of course, social media was there to catch it all.
McMaster Marauder’s Ladies Heating Up
There must be something in the water at basketball gyms in Hamilton right now because the McMaster Marauders women’s basketball team are on fire heading into the U Sports Women’s Basketball Finals being played this week at Ryerson University. After winning their first OUA title in 11 seasons, the number 2 team in the country trounced Concordia in the quarter finals behind Sarah Gates mind blowing 32 points. They play Saskatchewan in the Semi-Finals but if you want our forecast, look for a thriller to go down at the Matamy Centre on Sunday night with Ottawa taking the title over top team Laval Shak Pryce style!
AB doesn’t want to spend his winters in Buffalo either
As much as we’d love seeing the NFL’s top wide receiver up close next season, call us not surprised after seeing him instantly pour water on the rumours on his social media as soon as the news broke. Something tells us AB remembered how the Terrell Owens experiment worked out for the Bills, and quickly told his agent to kill the deal—and fast.
Meanwhile somewhere in Florida
The big news this week is that Canada’s team signed Clay Buchholz to shore up their starting rotation but he doesn’t have social media so instead we’ll show you Vlad and Co smiling and staying warm down in Dunedin. The best part of this post for us is Teoscar Hernandez’ head warmer underneath his hat….boy are these guys up for a treat when they get up to TO to start the season in a few weeks time.
Lebron passes MJ
Over in the NBA, while the Raps are coming off a few games they’d rather forget, the big news around the league was Lebron passing the great Michael Jordan on the All-Time scoring leaders list. Lebron kinda even trolled the Bull’s legend by wearing some of his sneakers in classic Jordan colourways but also under reported on the night: Lebron has lost as many titles as MJ has won; not to mention that the Lakers lost by nearly 20 on the night and likely won’t make the playoffs.
