Vlad’s first game

Sure Genie doesn’t win much anymore, but for fans of women’s tennis in Canada, it’s no secret as to who is taking the throne. This week, down in Mexico, Bianca Andreescu marches her way to another quarter finals.

U-Sports women’s basketball finals

We’re a bit excited here in Toronto; next week, the Ryerson Rams will play host to the Canadian U-Sports women’s basketball finals, and while the final field isn’t set until this weekend, we know the ladies playing for the Ryerson Rams are ready.

Altidore staying at TFC

Sure we were a little upset when Toronto FC let Giovinco go to Saudi Arabia, but with the long-term signing of forward Jozy Altidore, it’s clear that the squad plans to forgo a rebuild.

Canada cuts Johnny football

It’s one thing to be cut by a team, but one-time football phenom Johnny Manziel got cut, not just by his team the Montreal Alouettes, but by the entire CFL. You read that right. We’re sure this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Johnny Football thanks to all the new upstart football leagues south of the border. Needless to say, if it takes Vince McMahon to get you back into the game, your career probably didn’t end up the way you imagined.

While the big news in baseball this week was some guy joining the Phillies for more than a quarter billion dollars, the big news in Dunedin was Vlad Guererro Jr.’s first spring game. He didn’t disappoint; a hit, run, and RBI for his first as a Blue Jay? We’ll take it.

Genie hits the quarter century

While her elite tennis status may be dwindling, Canada’s Genie Bouchard sure knows how to mark an occasion. This time it was her 25th birthday. This year the theme seems to be ‘extra’. Let’s just hope she applies that to the court too…
