Toronto is experiencing a bit of a hotel-aissance lately. With new(ish) additions to the city including the Ace Hotel Toronto, W Hotel, and 1 Hotel, as well as luxe updates to the Fairmont Royal York, Park Hyatt Toronto, Drake Hotel, and more, the options are abundant for anyone looking to relish in an indulgent staycation or lobby bar tipple. In 2023, you can add at least one more option to the mix— Canopy by Hilton Toronto Yorkville.

The brand’s first foray into the Canadian market, Canopy by Hilton just opened its doors in one of Toronto’s most iconic neighborhoods. Designed by acclaimed firm Studio Munge, the boutique 184-room hotel draws inspiration from the connection between nature and cosmopolitan life and boasts a sleek indoor pool, modern fitness center, local street art, a transfer lounge, and 3,500 square feet of meeting space.

Canopy by Hilton Toronto Yorkville offers two on-site dining options led by executive chef Justin Raponi. Día serves as a gathering place to enjoy seasonal fare and eclectic wines and spirits. Visitors and locals alike can enjoy the restaurant’s signature wine program and sample cocktails as a part of Canopy’s bespoke evening tastings. For lighter fare, Virtu Café & Provisions fosters a strong connection with the surrounding neighborhoods and the entire city. The all-day café serves purposefully-sourced and locally-inspired dishes.

The ground floor lobby is separated from the café by modernist screens with copper mesh inserts. A bespoke burnt orange rug grounds the room, while white oak wood panelling adds a touch of elegance. On the second floor, guests are greeted by an informal and approachable desk, which sets the tone for a relaxed and welcoming stay.

Behind the desk, commissioned video artwork by local artist Alex McLeod showcases a hyperrealistic 3D version of Toronto, complete with iconic landmarks and lush greenery.

Upstairs, the guest rooms are designed with a neutral palette and organic motifs inspired by changing seasons. The brand’s iconic canopy beds are expressed in light oak wood, adding a natural and authentic touch to the refined design. Mismatched nightstands designed by Alessandro Munge add a warm sense of eclecticism, while custom-designed rugs add texture and softness to the space.

The hotel’s location is part of the continued evolution of Toronto’s Bloor-Yorkville corridor. Known for its luxury shopping, dining, and cultural attractions, the neighbourhood continues to undergo a transformation as anchor tenants like the Hudson’s Bay Company and Gap have departed to make way for new ones, including Alo, Lululemon, and condo developments. The addition of Canopy by Hilton Toronto Yorkville will be part of the neighbourhood’s next generation of leading businesses.
