There is an age-old adage that states “all good things come to those who wait.” In the world of single malt Scotch, this proverb holds true. Bowmore Single Malt Scotch has always honoured the power that comes with the passage of time, understanding that beauty and complexity are qualities that are earned with patience and fortitude. With a history spanning more than 240 years, Bowmore was founded in 1779 on the craggy black rocks of Islay, Scotland, a place defined by the beautiful clashing of nature’s elements. In fact, so intertwined is the relationship between the two that according to historians, the origins of the Bowmore name can be traced back to a small black reef located outside of Lochindaal. Others have attributed the Norse translation for sunken rock (“bogha more”) as the origin of the name. In any case, it’s clear that Bowmore has long been spellbound by these majestic black rocks.  

At the distillery, time is respected, and nothing is rushed. Bowmore invests more time than is required in every stage of the whisky-making process in order to achieve optimal results. From their proprietary malt barns to their hand-selected casks, each step of the process ladders up to the brand’s commitment to excellence, resulting in a spirit that possesses a complex balance of signature smokiness, maritime minerality, and fresh stone fruit notes. It is this combination that gives Bowmore its distinctive complexity, making it one of the world’s most collectible Islay malts today.

In celebration of its rich heritage, Bowmore has launched a global campaign called ‘The Art of Time’ to showcase how its whiskies are transformed into the golden masterpieces that we know (and taste) today.

‘The Art of Time’ is the first undertaking by the brand to comprehensively tell the Bowmore story in depth by unlocking the rich layers of its heritage while paying homage to the craftsmanship and legacy behind its single malt. In honour of Bowmore’s commitment to ‘The Art of Time,’ the storied distillery recently released the brand-new Timeless Series, a portfolio of spectacularly aged single malts that brings the true story of time to life. One of the Timeless Series’ expressions, Bowmore Timeless 27 Year Old, is now set to land on Canadian shelves and is already coveted by Scotch collectors across the country.

In keeping with the brand’s legacy and iconic style, Bowmore Timeless 27 Year Old boasts an irresistibly perfect balance of smoke with hints of plum, toffee, and grilled orange peel on the nose and notes of honey, Montecristo cigar tobacco, and roasted coffee beans on the palate. Each bottle is a precious vessel that contains a single malt that has been matured in Sherry and ex-Bourbon casks for 15 years before being carefully moved into first-fill Oloroso butts for another 12 years.

Drawing further inspiration from the influence of time, each edition is housed within a distinctive black box where the bottle sits alongside an hourglass, which, once turned, allows three minutes to enjoy the beautifully complex notes that this masterpiece has taken decades to perfect. Limited to just 3,000 bottles worldwide, Bowmore Timeless 27 Year Old is truly a time capsule containing more than 240 years of tradition and craftsmanship. 

Bowmore has also joined forces with independent French film director and artist Thomas Vanz to pay homage to the brand’s heritage through film and artwork. 

“The artistry involved in the whisky making process is fascinating and provided me with rich and vivid inspiration to create my own unique interpretation,” says Vanz. “Through my work, I focused on capturing a galaxy of beautiful chemical reactions to represent the whisky making process, which is made up of complex movements and colours. This is my interpretation of the Bowmore universe.”
