The new Art Rate Monitor at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) was an unforgettable experience perfect for a date night or a rainy day adventure. This innovative feature allows visitors to explore the gallery uniquely and engagingly.

As I wandered through the stunning exhibits, the Art Rate Monitor tracked my emotional responses to various artworks in real-time free personalized wrap reports, identifying your art persona, what artworks you spent the longest time with, your preferred colour palette, and more. The interactive component added a personal touch, letting me connect more deeply with the pieces on display. Each artwork elicited different feelings, and the monitor reflected on this journey, providing insights into my emotional landscape throughout the visit.

Visitors who participate can sign up to receive a personalized wrap report, similar to a Spotify Wrap report for your museum visit.

In the report, they will discover:

  • Their art persona ( 8 possible – The Naturalist, The Powerhouse, The Connector, The Seeker, The Poet, The Dreamer, The Muse,  and The Luminary)
  • What work made their heart race
  • What work made their heart rate slow
  • What work held their attention the longest
  • What colour they gravitated towards most

Why is the AGO doing this?

“Great art tells many things, but for the first time, thanks to the Art Rate Monitor, we can make visible and share how great art makes us feel,” says Trish Popkin, the AGO’s Associate Director, Visitor Welcome.  “A playful way to demonstrate the very real emotional and physical impact art has on us all, participants receive a personalized wrap report that details aspects of their experience, including what moved them most. We love seeing visitors share their art experiences, and the Art Rate Monitor is designed to let visitors do just that.”

This activation is free for all Art Gallery of Ontario visitors and will run until Nov.19th.
